So based on the government decision to bail out the Big 3, was it a good decision?
Personally, I think that it was bad because there is limited accountability and there were no incentives for these companies to develop technological innovations or for consumers to buy more American vehicles.
Case in point, there is no requirement for the Big 3 to invest and build more into Bluetec diesel products that are claener burning and higher mileage vehicle. The Germans (who developed Bluetec) are fully committed to this as a stepping stone towards alternative fuel and electric vehicles. VW and Audi have 4 door passenger cars that are getting almost 60 mpg and stupid Americans are complaining that diesel is $.70 more per gallon... while they ingore that the German diesels are getting more that twice the mileage. How ignorant can American consumers and the Big 3 be? If the Germans get it right, they will flood our market with all of their models with Bluetec diesel options.
I still believe that there is a very good chance that GM and Chrylser will be filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy to get out from under the union chackles.
